Harrisburg, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Senate approved legislation Thursday that would establish the Castle Doctrine in Pennsylvania to protect gun owners who act in self-defense, according to Sen. Richard Alloway II, a Republican who represents Franklin County. House Bill 1926 will now return to the House of Representatives, where it has been supported by Todd Rock and Rob Kauffman, also Republicans who represent Franklin County. Alloway was the prime sponsor of the Castle Doctrine amendment, which was added to House Bill 1926. JOPLIN, Mo. — The rights of gun owners and people with mental illnesses will be decided by Kansas voters next month. Two amendments seeking to clarify language in the state constitution are on the Nov. 2 ballot, referred to voters by state legislators. One amendment would establish that Kansas residents have an individual right to own a gun; the other would take away legislators’ authority to deny voting rights to the mentally ill. State Rep. Pennsylvania: Amendment recognizes Right-to-Carry in Amity Township parks

The Amity Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Park Rules Ordinance Amendment 267 on Oct. 6. The amendment states that “permitted” firearms (purchased following a background check) are permitted in its seven parks.

Tennessee: Hunting, fishing on ballot

Tennessee, Arizona, Arkansas and South Carolina are asking voters on Nov. 2 to decide whether to establish a constitutional right to hunt and fish. If the proposed amendment is approved, hunting and fishing would join other constitutionally guaranteed pursuits such as the right to bear arms and the right of trial by jury.

Chadron considers changing firearms ordinance

The Chadron City Council is considering changing a city ordinance that prohibits carrying loaded firearms in vehicles as some in the Nebraska town believe state and federal laws are already adequate when it comes to gun control. “It looks like the state has adequately covered the whole thing, and there is no reason for us to mess with it,” council member John Gamby said recently at the second reading of an ordinance amendment to drop the prohibition of carrying a loaded rifle in plain view in a vehicle. On Sept. 15, the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee passed an amendment by Rep. John Boozman (R-Ark.) to provide individuals receiving veterans’ benefits with added protection against loss of the right to possess firearms due to mental health decisions.

Tennessee: Right to hunt, fish amendment needed

When Tennesseans go to the polls Nov. 2 the state’s right to hunt and fish amendment will be on the ballot. For the amendment to become part of the state constitution it will need 50 percent of the total number of votes in the gubernatorial race plus one. Three other states — Arkansas, Arizona and South Carolina — have similar referendums this year.
