In the first test of the countys new rules for reviewing police-involved deaths, officers connected with the Dec. 11 death of a suspect who was shot with a Taser are refusing to cooperate with investigators. Their refusal to make voluntary statements to Metros Force Investigation Team is on the advice of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, said Chris Collins, president of the officers union. (GunReports.com) — In Illinois, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Appellate Court defense of the county gun ban (Wilson, et. al. v. Cook County, et. al.) got off to a bad start when briefs filed by the county before the First District Appellate Court were found to contain factual errors. More specifically, these factual errors included the misquoting of U.S. Supreme Court decisions in the DC v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago cases, according to the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA).

The Michigan Legislature recently voted to pass several bills sponsored by Senator John J. Gleason, including his legislation to increase programs for gun safety in public schools. Under Senate Bill 1402, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is required to develop or adopt a model gun safety program based on the “Eddie Eagle” curriculum developed by the National Rifle Association to promote gun accident prevention. Beginning in the 2011 — 2012 school year public schools across the state will be encouraged to adopt the model program developed by the MDE.
